Tuesday we had our event of Sustainable Silicon: Innovating the Supply Chain for a Greener Future.
Bert van Dijk – Technology Reporter at Het Financieele Dagblad – brought us valuable insights about the silicon industry. Most notably is that decoupling from the current supply chain is nearly impossible. The silicon industry is very much a global business with highly specialized (monopolistic) companies in different companies. This current supply chain is very efficient, de-globalizing this supply chain will most certainly lead to higher prices, which the consumer will pay for in the end.
Arnoud Walrecht – Global Lead Circular Economy at KPMG– showed us that in order to become a circular economy, we need do collaborate throughout the whole supply chain. International collaboration for new ways of thinking and standardization is essential to create more sustainable and circular world.
Both speakers highlighted that we need to dialogue and cooperation in order to move forward.
